The importance of the lob

The lob is very important, because:

  • It slows the game down
  • It is considered a way of attacking
  • It is the best way to get into net position

Lob direction – cross court

When you play the lob cross court, you need to know a few things:

It is easier to play, because it is on the longest part of the court, so you have the most space to play the lob.
Because it is cross court, it is most of the time harder for opponents to hit a good bajada.
Because it is cross court, it is most of the time easier to hit a bandeja

Lob direction – tight down the line

The second option is to play the lob tight down the line. Keep the follow points in your mind:

It is more difficult to play, because it is on the shortest part of the court, so you do not have a lot of space.
For your opponents it is difficult to hit smashes or other technical balls, because you will be close to the fence.

Lob direction – down the middle

The third option is to play the lob down the middle of the court. Keep in mind that this is the easiest place for opponents to attack with a bajada. To prevent this, you have to play faster lobs instead of higher lobs.
