Several emerging padel countries also produced notable performances.
I was fortunate enough to once again join the World Padel Championships with Great Britain. In 2022, we travelled to Dubai to take on some of the best padel teams in the world.
We didn’t end up taking home the trophy, but Great Britain placed fourteenth overall. More importantly, we got to see incredible teams in action throughout the tournament.
In this post I’ll share a bit about the location and give a rundown of the results from that event.
Homecoming to Dubai
Going back to Dubai was a nostalgic trip for me since I had lived there for ten years. The visit brought back plenty of excellent memories.
The UAE Padel Association with the FIP, the International Padel Federation, ran the tournament. My previous role involved organising major events for the Federation, so it was nice to be reunited with people and teams involved in hosting the event.
Considering the UAE had only forty-two days to execute the event, they pulled off an impressive tournament. The venue was world class and the hotel was right by the courts, making it extremely convenient for the players.
The courts themselves were pristine with plenty of seating and viewing areas. Matches were also broadcast live on YouTube.
2022 World Padel Championships Results
On the men’s side, Argentina came away with the victory over Spain, with France ending in third and Portugal in fourth.
For the women, Spain took first place ahead of Argentina, with Italy and Belgium finishing third and fourth respectively.
The final rankings also highlighted how different countries were developing their padel infrastructure, coaching and competitive pathways at different speeds.
The tournament finished with the medal presentations and provided another snapshot of the international development of padel at that time.
