Padel serve
Padel players have different intentions with their service. Some people are trying to hit a good serve to get an easier ball back, while other people just use the serve as a point starter. If you want to serve more like professional players, the aim is to combine consistency with a serve that puts the returner under pressure.
Service tips
Professional players use different serving routines. Some bounce the ball and others let the ball drop, but there are several principles you will see repeatedly.
- Bounce or drop the ball in front of you and to the side so you can swing freely
- Take your racket back behind your head
- Contact the ball around waist height
- Hit the ball with a little slice or relatively flat
- Move your body forward towards the net after serving
If you are not currently applying all these tips, break your service action down into the individual steps and work on consistency first. Take your racket back early and let the ball drop forward and next to you before serving. Once the basic action is reliable, you can start adding more variation and placement.
When you step up to the line, remember that the serve is not just a way to start the point. A well-placed, consistent serve can help you establish a stronger position for the next shot.
