About

Coalition Padel

Coalition Padel is one of Johannesburg's leading padel venues, serving a fast-growing player base in a market where the sport is expanding quickly but coaching provision is still finding its feet. The club had built strong facilities and a busy membership. What it wanted next was a coaching operation that matched the quality of everything else it had put in place, and a way to stand apart in a market where new clubs were opening steadily.

Raise coaching standards and build a long-term coaching growth plan

What needed to change?

Coaching standards varied session to session

The club wanted its coaching team operating to the highest standard in the industry, not to a standard that depended on which coach a player happened to book. Without a shared methodology, every coach was effectively running their own version of the club's offer.

Coaching was the obvious point of difference, but it was not being used as one

With new venues opening across the region, facilities alone were not going to keep players loyal. Coalition wanted coaching to be the reason players chose them, which meant it had to be visibly better rather than simply available.

There was no long-term plan for the coaching team or the programmes

The club wanted a structure it could grow into, covering how coaches develop, how players progress and how programmes expand as demand builds. Solving the immediate quality question without that plan would only have moved the problem a year down the road.

Building the right support around the club

Coach education against a defined methodology

We upskilled Coalition's coaching team in The Padel School methodology so that every coach was teaching the same technical and tactical framework. This addressed the consistency problem directly. Players now get the same quality of instruction and the same progression logic regardless of who is on court with them.

Adult and junior programmes designed and provided for the club

Rather than leaving the team to build content, we designed the programmes and handed over the session plans and teaching resources to deliver them. That gave the club structured pathways for beginner through to advanced players, and a junior pathway to bring the next generation through, without adding planning workload to a coaching team that needed to be on court.

Academy status and brand positioning

‍Coalition became a Padel School Academy, with the branding present at the club. This gave players an external, recognised marker of coaching quality and gave the club the differentiator it was looking for.

Ongoing support rather than a one-off handover

Player clinic days, online consulting calls and continued contact with the TPS team keep standards from drifting once the initial education is complete. This is what turns a training week into a long-term growth plan.

Results in more detail

+238% year-on-year increase in group classes delivered

Group coaching is the engine of a club's coaching revenue and the entry point for most players into structured improvement. More than tripling group class delivery means significantly more players are now on a coaching pathway rather than only playing social matches.

+152% year-on-year increase in individual classes delivered

‍Individual lessons are a strong signal of trust in a coaching team. Players only book one-to-one time when they believe the coach can genuinely improve them. A 152% increase shows the methodology is producing visible results on court.

97% of players would recommend TPS Academy coaching to other players

‍Near-universal advocacy turns coaching into an acquisition channel. Players who recommend their coaching are bringing new players into the club and strengthening the Academy's reputation.

Highest month-on-month coaching revenue since the club's inception.

The clearest measure of the partnership's value. Coaching moved from being a service the club offered to a commercial pillar of the business, and it did so while the club's overall member base was still growing.

I genuinely think the coaching at Coalition is elite. What I enjoy most is how structured it is, especially being tied to The Padel School. You can feel there's a methodology behind it rather than ad hoc sessions, which gives real confidence in the process and progression.
